Additive chemicals are added to improve the performance of degreasing, phosphating, pickling and chromating solutions; they assist in maintaining quality of coatings; reduce bath fatigue; and help to minimize undesirable side reactions. Operators use additive chemicals when there is a decline in the speed of cleaning, when there is a decrease in the weight of the coatings or when there is an uneven finish. Instead of discarding the bath, conductive use of small amounts of additive chemical brings the process back into a usable range.

All batches of additive chemicals are tested prior to being sent out to customers; however, results are based on how well they are used. If too much is added, it alters the chemical formula. If there isn't enough added, they continue to degrade. We advise our clients on how much and when to use on the basis of load size and cycle time. By making these types of practical adjustments, the client will save money on the additive chemical and reduce the amount of time spent cleaning.
